Whilst discussing the factors leading to the lack of unity of the Filipino American community, my dad talked about the American influence on the Philippines during their occupation there. This is what he said:

"Da Americans taught us a lot of tings. They taught us to read, to write. The only ting is that dey taught us to depend on dem. They taught us 1 apel + 1 apel equals...WE DON'T HAVE APELS!"

LOL. It's probably one of those "you had to be there" moments but I will forever remember that line for it was said with such seriousness and conviction. mmm...GOD BLESS AMERICA!
